Practicing effective triage is critical for saving lives in mass casualty incidents (MCIs) and disasters, where rapid decision-making can directly impact patient outcomes. The Sixty Seconds to Survival simulation series provides a safe, gamified environment for emergency medical services (EMS) providers and other healthcare professionals to practice evidence-based mass casualty triage across a variety of realistic scenarios involving both pediatric and adult patients.
Across three modules, learners apply START/JumpSTART triage principles, assess patients, determine appropriate life-saving interventions, and assign triage categories under time pressure. Through repeated practice, increasingly varied scenarios, and individualized feedback based on their decisions, learners can strengthen their triage skills and build confidence for high-stakes, low-frequency events. The Sixty Seconds to Survival series offers an accessible, engaging way to reinforce skills that can be applied during real-world disaster and mass casualty response.
