Respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) is the most frequent virus causing lower-airway respiratory tract infections, often presenting with common cold-like symptoms. While RSV frequently does not cause severe illness, in some instances, especially in young children and infants, RSV can result in significant respiratory distress or failure. This course provides an overview of RSV, focusing the pathophysiology, clinical features, and prevention and management modalities.
What You Will Learn
- Discuss the pathophysiology of RSV.
- Recognize the clinical presentation, including the increased severity, of RSV in younger children.
- Outline age and severity-appropriate interventions for children diagnosed with RSV.
- Describe prevention approaches for RSV.
